- Drums
Whether it’s big band swing, rock ‘n roll, country and country rock, or just about any other style out there, Bob is known as the “clock dude”. In the studio, a metronome isn’t necessary. Whatever speed he starts the song is the speed at which the song will end. He is acquainted with all time signatures and pays close attention to dynamics.
Bob is strictly a right-handed single kick player who learned the 13 basic drum rudiments at an early age. The importance of those rudiments shows in his playing style. Charts are no problem and neither is playing by ear.
A quick study, Bob has been called on by numerous bands that have suddenly discovered themselves to be without a drummer for their next gig.
Throw the charts at him or a CD with the tunes on it and he can be ready in a day or two. In the mid-seventies Bob was called on to play with Julie Howe to open for Del Reeves. With absolutely no rehearsal other than a few instructions from the bass player, Bob went on to perform for a packed auditorium, doing two shows that day.
Bob plays a standard 5 piece Tama set most often, but also owns a seven piece Ludwig set from the mid-seventies. This set is quite rare (polished stainless steel) and was only in production for a few years. If need be, he can break out the Roland V-drums for those small clubs or places where acoustic drums are too large or too loud.
Bob is also and experience vocalist, both lead and backing, and has no problem singing while playing drums. He has always been a team player with a friendly disposition and has no drug or alcohol problems.
