Stems and Seeds

(Robert Lee)

I spent my last dollar on a half a drop of gas
And I never drive over 35 cause I’m trying to make it last
But the local discount department store is the only place I’ve been
Cause times are hard and I’m unemployed again.

I once had me a job there, sellin’ ladies underwear
I really liked the work until they told me to cut my hair.
I said ok I’ll do it right away and I turned my back and ran
And I was right back down to stems and seeds again.

I’m down to stems and seeds again.
Sometimes it seems like the gutter is the only place I’ve been
I should get back up and play the game but I just can’t seem to win
Yes I’m down to stems and seeds again.

My ole’ lady left a long time ago and she took all my cash.
She also took my dog, my remote and most of my stash
Now I sure do miss that dog and the only show I can watch is “Friends”
I guess I’m down to stems and seeds again

I went to see my girl friend down by the Delaware Bay.
I drove through Chesapeake City and got lost for half the day
How could I get lost in such a small town with only one way out or in?
When I left that town I was down to seeds and stems.

Chorus

I ran into an old buddy but he was wearing a coat and tie
Then he handed me a Bible and he gave me this great big smile
He said, “ Jesus could save your soul you know and forgive you for all your sins.”
And I said, “You must be down to stems and seeds again.”

I’m down to stems and seeds again
Sometimes it seems like the gutter is the only place I’ve been
I should get back up and play the game but I just can’t seem to win
Cause I’m down to stems and seeds, there’s only one thing I really need,
And I don’t mean crack and I don’t mean speed
I just wish I could find me a little weed
Cause I’m down to stems and seeds again.
