Little Children

(Robert Lee)
Copyright 1982 Robert Lee Shearer
Think of all the little children
Who cry at night feeling all alone
Cause Daddy left to go out for the evening
And Mommy hardly ever makes it home

A stranger keeps peeking in my bedroom
And she sits out there and watches my TV
She gets paid every night by the hour
But she don’t understand a child the age of three

Now at three years old a child needs attention
Though his parents just can’t seem to get along
And the love is gone that once there was between them
So he cries and thinks that he’s done something wrong.

Daddy won’t you come and hold me?
Mommy won’t you sing me a song?
Would you sit right down and tell me a story?
Would you stay right here beside me all night long?

So listen and I hope that you’ll remember
That children soon have children of their own
So be sure to give him all of your attention
Don’t let that little child grow up alone.

No matter how I’d like to have you with me
Lord knows the lonely nights when I have cried
But run home now to the one who really needs you
Don’t let him grow up without you by his side.
